Judgement of King Solomon

Long ago, King Solomon was famous throughout the world for his wisdom and sense of justice. People from distant lands came to his court whenever they faced difficult problems that no one else could solve.

One day, two women came to the royal court carrying a small baby. Both of them looked tired and worried. They stood before the king and each of them claimed that the baby was her own child.

The first woman stepped forward and said,

The court became silent. Everyone was confused. There was no witness, no proof, and no way to identify the real mother. The ministers whispered among themselves, unable to find any solution.

King Solomon listened carefully to both women. He asked them many questions, but both of them kept insisting that the baby was theirs. The problem seemed impossible to solve.

After thinking for a while, the king ordered an executioner to come to the court with a sharp sword.

Everyone in the court was shocked.

King Solomon said in a calm voice,

The court fell into complete silence. The ministers were stunned. The executioner stepped forward with the sword.

Suddenly, one of the women cried out in pain and threw herself at the king’s feet. With tears in her eyes, she begged,

“Please, Your Majesty! Do not kill the baby. Give the child to the other woman. I give up my claim. Let the baby live!”

The other woman remained silent and showed no emotion.

At once, King Solomon smiled. He raised his hand and stopped the executioner.

“The woman who begged to save the child is the real mother,” he declared.

The baby was handed over to the real mother, and the false woman was punished for her dishonesty.

Everyone in the court praised the wisdom of King Solomon. His fame spread even further across the land.
